Why book with a holiday rental professional?

According to the traveller survey cited in this 2016 article, 70% preferred booking through holiday rental professionals rather than dealing directly with private owners. The main reason was peace of mind, with professional managers described as resolving problems quickly and being available around the clock.

The article also cited the following reasons for choosing a holiday rental agency:

• 99% of holidaymakers who had stayed in a professionally managed home reported a positive experience on their most recent stay;
• 95% could name at least one reason for choosing a management company rather than booking directly with an owner. The main reason given was that a professional would resolve problems quickly and be available 24/7;
• 88% of major problems reported in owner-managed rentals related to dirty rooms, a lack of service or safety concerns;
• Almost 70% of guests who chose a professional manager over a private owner preferred the peace of mind of dealing with a professional;
• 89% of travellers who had never rented a holiday home were open to doing so, but concerns about renting from a private owner put them off before they tried;
• 62% were concerned that a problem at an owner-managed property would not be resolved quickly;
• 46% worried that a rental booked directly with a private owner would not meet their expectations;
• 45% were concerned about safety at an owner-managed property;
• 49% looked for someone they could trust when booking accommodation;
• 68% of holidaymakers who had experienced both types of management preferred professionally managed rentals to owner-managed properties;
• More than half would choose a professionally managed holiday rental for greater peace of mind.

The survey quoted in the original article suggested that travellers wanted to place their holidays in the hands of someone they could trust. It argued that owning a property does not automatically mean having the skills, inclination or time to meet guests' expectations for safety, cleanliness and assistance.
