An island to explore at your own pace
The coastal road forms a loop of around 60 kilometres (37 miles). It connects beaches, villages, local spots and activity departure points, while inland you will find plantations, trails and viewpoints. A car or scooter gives you the freedom to plan your days and discover the island's many different sides.
Getting here from Tahiti
The ferry connects Papeete and Moorea in around 30 to 45 minutes. Passenger and vehicle services run daily. Check timetables with the ferry companies and book vehicle space in advance during busy periods.
The bays and the north coast
Cook's Bay and Opunohu Bay create some of Moorea's most iconic landscapes. Many accommodation options and activities are found in the north. Routes from the coastal road lead to plantations, the mountains and the Belvedere lookout overlooking both bays.
Enjoy the lagoon
Kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and boat trips let you experience the lagoon at your own pace. Choose operators who respect the marine environment, avoid touching coral or wildlife, and follow all safety instructions.
Whale watching
During the authorised season, Moorea is a wonderful place to observe humpback whales. Regulations can change and strictly control how whales may be approached. Book only with an authorised operator and check the rules in force during your stay.
Explore inland
Trails, plantations and panoramic views reveal Moorea's lush interior. Choose an outing that matches your ability, bring suitable equipment and use a guide where a route crosses private land or involves particular difficulties.
Choose your accommodation
Shops, restaurants and activities are spread around the island. Before booking, consider how you will get around, which beaches you want to visit and the pace of holiday you prefer.

A tip from our team
Consider more than a day trip. Staying for several nights gives you time to enjoy peaceful mornings, explore the lagoon without rushing and discover local spots after the last ferries have left.
